Synopsis: The speaker here is the legendary King Arthur of Camelot. The listener is his queen, Guinevere. Guinevere has been having sleeping with her husband’s friend and loyal knight, Sir Lancelot. When their affair is discovered, Guinevere escapes to a convent and resides there until Arthur comes to her, where the two argue about her betrayal. While she is apologetic, Guinevere does not deny her love for Lancelot. She attempts to convince Arthur of her affection for him. Both give into temptation, as they expect that this will be their last night together.
